LA Film Festival

I returned earlier this week from one of the biggest wake up calls/ learning experiences of my film career. I need to up my game! Not just with making better films, I'm always trying to out do my pervious work, but this was just by chance that the programming director, Drea, saw my music video and invited me to the festival and I could have been entering my work into festivals this whole time. Not only that, but the whole networking aspect. A simple thing like handing someone a business card seemed so foreign to me. I did meet some great directors that weekend and was very humbled by how great they were! I have a new excitement for my craft now. The bar has been raised and I'm thrilled about that!

Here's to next years LA Film Festival and other cities to come!

Trouble Hunters: Astronautalis

About a month ago I got a surprising call from my friend Andy saying that there was someone from the LA Film Festival trying to get a hold of me to enter the music video I made for Andy (Astronautalis). I receive a call from the LA Film Fest and get all the info I need shortly after and get Trouble Hunters entered. This still all seems kind of surreal. I wasn't planning on being able to attend the Festival, but my family and friends had a plan in motion to raise money to not only send me, but my girlfriend Martha as well! I can't thank everybody enough for doing that for us.

UPDATE: Here's the video. I'm happy with how it turned out, although I wish I would have used some type of stabilization. I din't realize how shaky it was until I started viewing the footage on the computer, but you live and learn and whatevs...

Electric President

Here's the latest video I did for Electric President. The song is titled The Violent Blue from the new album of the same name. This was a challenging video to shoot as it was shot on the beach at night during winter with a very healthy wind blowing sand in our faces the whole time. It was also my first time shooting with the Canon EOS 7D, which I borrowed from my friend Michael. I'm completely in love with these new DSLR cameras.

I will be shooting a follow up video for this album in the next couple of weeks.

Also I am working with Mr. Richrad Colado on a video for his upcoming album "Youngster." I'm really excited about this video. It's going to be a tough one to execute. I love a good challenge!

Arizona

I went to Arizona recently with my family to see the rest of my family. Apart from seeing my family I was really excited to film somewhere new and different. I felt somewhat uninspired by the scenery here in Jacksonville. I'm sure everybody feels that about where they live every now and then, but damn.... there's really not a whole lot to look at here!

Canon 5DmkII

I did some test shots with my friend Michael and his 5DmkII for a new Electric President video. The challenge for this video is that Ben(from Electric President) wants to shoot at the beach at night. Obviously light, or the lack there of, is the issue here. I wondered if the 5D would be up to the task. So we took it out with just a $35 dollar LED flash light to see what kind of imagery we could get and I was floored by what this camera could do. It was a great first test and gave us a lot of insight into what we could accomplish.

I haven't updated in a while. I really don't have anything new to talk about. Hopefully that will all change in the next couple of weeks. I've got some ideas I'm cooking up!

First week at new job

My first week was good. I mainly just got aquainted with everything and got my workstation set up. Next week I should start getting busy with some projects which I'm really looking forward to.

This is my little area. I'm still getting it set up, but I like it. It's a very quiet and relaxed enviroment. I spent most of yesterday learning the new finalcut studio and I only saw my other coworkers twice in 8 hours.

Well anyways, here's to getting productive and earning my keep!

New job!

I start my new job as an "integrated system specialist" on Monday at Florida State college of Jacksonville. I'll be shooting, editing, and compressing video, which I guess is the integrated system. I'm super excited to actually be working in my field for a real paycheck and not having to wonder when the next freelance job might come my way.

It's about time! Looks like they still don't really care much about DVD studio pro. Still at version 4, which is still a great application. Time to do some research on it and figure how I'm gonna update!

48 Hour Film Project

I've participated in five of these competitions so far. We had huge success in the Orlando competition, but not so much in our hometown. I feel our win in Orlando was deserving. There was no elbow rubbing to be done. Nobody knew us. We just showed up out of nowhere and ran the train on Orlando, which most of the other teams were not happy about. But I feel it's different here in Jacksonville. Something felt fishy about the whole thing. I'm not saying we should of won, but we should have gotten more credit than just runner-up for best actor for the puppet we used. I thought the film "Sketchy" should have won a lot more than they did as well. The only teams that I thought were deserving of what they got was Somebody call an Ambulance, and "Static Lullaby" By AI JAX Red Team, all those guys are good. The "best film" got a resounding "huh?" from the whole audience. It was weird. When they announced the best film, it seemed that everybody just kind of got up and started moving towards the exit, in a "that was kind of a waste of time" way. Maybe I missed something. Maybe I'm reading into it too much, but I was pretty disappointed by the whole thing. Mainly because it's a really fun competition and I would like to do it again next but now I don't know.

Prop: Disposable Camera
Line of dialogue: What did you do that for?

The genre we had was Romance, hence the title of the film.

No budget... No problem

The past few days my friend/ film partner, Boese and I have been working on our second full length feature. The entire film is being done improv. We have no script, just an outline, and we have absolutely no budget for this film, but fortunately we have a lot of really good friends, and very talented actors, willing to help out in any way they can allowing us to actually make this film look like a big budget production. We're 3/4 of the way done with filming, which we plan on finishing the rest next Wednesday. Sorry I don't have any pictures of anything yet, but I'll try my best to keep things updated.

Vitamin Circus Variety Show Ep-1

Rick and I have finally put up the first episode of the "Vitamin Circus Variety Show!" We only intended these shows to be about 6-10 minutes in length, but we ended up with a 26 minute long episode for this one. Drum Set Pt2

So this is where I'm at now. The color is mainly a place holder that I will eventually replace with pictures of my drum kit to make it look as real as I can. I wish I had Maya, I can only work with it at school for like 4 hours a week at best.

Vitamin Circus Variety Show

So Richard Colado and I are working on a new project called The Vitamin Circus Variety Show. It will feature Richard's (rickolus, julius airwave, richard love) songs spanning throughout his various projects and bands, along with interviews with interesting people, skits, and really just about anything fun, cute, funny, cool, unbelievable, or exciting. Hopefully we will have the first episode up by the end of the week.

Trouble Hunters

So...I don't have a website, which is completely crazy for anybody producing media to not have one these days, but I thought a blog would be a nice little interim place to send people to view my work.

I recently have completed a music video for my friend Astronautalis for his song "Trouble Hunters" off of his new album Pomegranate. The concept of the video was to make a short film and do a "Music from the Motion Picture" type music video like this. The film we made was a continuation of these wonderful low-budget war/action movies that my friends Richard Colado and Alex Parkinson used to make about 11 years ago called "Killer Komandoze." Killer Komandoze is on it's 5th installment, and should be released to the internet in the next week or so. Hopefully we can track down the other 4 and get them up as well.
